Shai Reef

Shai Reef (panelist) Shai is a third year student at York University studying Political Science. Shai grew up in an ultra-orthodox Jewish community in Montreal and studied in Yeshiva there for most of his formative years. Shai spent a year in Israel at Orayta and was a part of a think tank that sought to explore the Hebrew and Palestinian narratives from those who'd fight and die for their people and homeland. While in his youth, Zionism was largely ignored in a Yeshiva that believed secular nationalism was not in accordance to a Jewish life, Shai's experience in Orayta was the opposite. There, Shai explored Jewish identity in a whole new light that truly changed his experience and understanding of Israel, Zionism and the conflict.
